Bailey Richards was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI to lead Van Meter past Earlham 3-1 in its regular season finale on July 5.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the fourth inning and tacked on a third in the sixth. Kendall Anderson limited Earlham to just three hits in the seven-inning victory while striking out three and walking one.

Van Meter also dropped a 3-2 decision to Madrid on July 3. Ali Flaherty was 2-for-3 and Hope Connor drove in a run and scored once. Kila Carbine struck out five and allowed six hits. All three runs were unearned.

Van Meter finished the regular season with a 23-11 mark. The team went 13-5 in West Central Activities Conference play, tying Madrid for third place.

The Bulldogs were to begin their quest for a return to the state softball tournament on Wednesday at home against Kuemper Catholic. The winner will advance to a Friday semifinal in Fort Dodge, with the regional final to follow on July 15 at 7 p.m. in Ogden.
