Waukee rallied from a deficit and won in walk-off fashion to beat West Des Moines Valley 9-8 on Tuesday in Waukee.
The Warriors improved to 4-0 with the victory. Senior Abby Krantza was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and drove in the winning run in the final frame. Callie Feaker homered, and she, Kylie Mickelson, Taylor Luther and Claire Dudek all had two hits apiece.
Kaitlyn Menz picked up the victory, allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits and striking out three in five innings.
Waukee also swept a doubleheader at Marshalltown on May 23, beating the Bobcats 9-0 and 11-0. Schylir Rowen homered and drove in three runs in game one, while Krantz, Feaker and Alex Shepard finished with three hits apiece. All nine starters recorded hits, and eight of them had two or more. Mickelson struck out five, scattering four hits in the victory.
Menz allowed just one hit in five innings while striking out seven for the victory in game two. Witte was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three driven in, and KRantz, Mickelson, Rowen and Shepard all had two-hit games.
The Warriors’ season began with a 5-3 victory over Winterset, as they pushed across two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take control.
Nicole Tennant was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Feaker and Shepard added two hits apiece. Menz picked up the victory in relief of Mickelson, hurling two innings of scoreless ball and striking out three.
