Dallas County celebrates Child Abuse Prevention Month
This April, Dallas County is joining hundreds of communities across the nation in celebrating Child Abuse Prevention Month with the Light of Hope Remembrance and Child Abuse Prevention Month Ceremony on Thursday, April 18 at the Adel Public Library starting at 5 p.m.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is a national movement raising awareness that child abuse is preventable and what communities can do to support this cause. This month and throughout the year, the Dallas County Children’s Advocacy Council encourages individuals and organizations to play a role in making Dallas County a better place for children and families. Helping parents gain the knowledge, skills, resources and support they need to care for their children promotes children’s social and emotional well-being and prevents abuse.
“By supporting and educating families, we can help ensure that their children grow up safe, nurtured and empowered to reach their full potential as adults,” said Steve Scott, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. “Child development is the foundation for community development. Everyone can play a role in strengthening families as advocates, donors or volunteers.”
The Dallas County Children’s Advocacy Council along with the 4RKids Early Childhood Iowa Area Board and the Adel Lions Club invites community members to celebrate and support families this month by attending the Light of Hope Remembrance and the Child Abuse Prevention Month Ceremony. Additionally, with a $1 donation you can pick up a Pinwheel for Child Abuse Prevention at the Adel, Dallas Center, and Waukee Libraries.
The Dallas County Children’s Advocacy Council meets the fourth Thursday of each month at Patrick’s Restaurant in Adel starting at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact Lisa Mickelson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515-993-4281.
