Madren pleads guilty to manslaughter

Brandon Madren, 25, of Adel has pleaded guilty to reduced charges after shooting and killing his friend Nathan Greene, 26, of Adel last February.

Madren was originally charged with first-degree murder, but pled guilty last week to voluntary manslaughter, reckless use of a firearm resulting in serious injury, unauthorized possession of a weapon, trafficking in stolen weapons and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

Lt. Gordy Shepherd, who has been involved with the case since day one, stated, “From an investigative standpoint we were fully prepared to go forward with murder in the first degree.”

The February 2012 incident started out as a verbal altercation at the Adel Village Apartments on Adel’s west side over a break up between Madren and Greene’s sister. Emotions quickly escalated to the point where Greene was shouting and hitting Madren’s car. Shortly after, Madren appeared on his balcony with a 22 caliber handgun to try to scare Greene, but a fatal shot was fired.

Authorities, Adel First Responders and Dallas County EMS were called to the scene at 11:06 p.m. where they transported Greene to Mercy Medical Center. Greene later died from the gunshot.
