Van Alstyne Fire Department emergency responders were called out to the site of an ATV accident on Jim Cannon Rd. involving a 9-year-old girl on Wednesday.

The 9-1-1 call came in at approximately 6:15 p.m. Wednesday evening. Responders were told that the young girl had been riding the all-terrain vehicle when an apparent mechanical malfunction — reported to be a stuck throttle — occurred. She lost control of the ATV and hit a telephone pole. The girl was sent flying over the handlebars where she impacted with a tree.

As the victim is a minor no medical information has been released. However, the accident was serious enough that she was transported via CareFlite to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas where her current status is unknown.
