1. Waukee United Methodist Church Ice Cream Social - June 25
The United Methodist Women will be hosting an ice cream social featuring homemade ice cream on Sunday, June 25 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Waukee United Methodist Church, 650 Ashworth Drive. The Waukee Big Band will be performing. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. In case of inclement weather, the social will move inside. Freewill offering will benefit Hamlin Fistula USA, which works to prevent and treat fistula in Ethopia. Hope to see you there!
2. Haunted Midwest - June 26
Chad Lewis, author of books such as “The Most Gruesome Hauntings of the Midwest” and “The Van Meter Visitor,” will host Haunted Midwest at the Dallas Center Public Library at 7 p.m. on June 26. This presentation takes the audience on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in the Midwest. It covers the entire area from a Witch haunting a cemetery in Minnesota to a haunted B&B in Illinois, from phantom creatures prowling the woods to back road creatures of Iowa, no place is without its own haunting. Complete with photos, case history, eyewitness accounts, ghost lore, and directions, this unique presentation encourages you to visit these places for your own ghost story.
3. St. Johns Church celebrates 100 years - June 25
St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel will celebrate its 100th Birthday on Sunday, June 25. Mass will be at 9 a.m. with “games, good food, and fellowship” from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Chicken dinner will be available for $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and for free for children ages 5 and under.
