Three taken to hospitals after driver hits cyclists in Dallas County

A driver hit three cyclists on County Road R22 in rural Dallas County on Wednesday evening at about 7:44 p.m., according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Renae Deaver, age 36 of Dallas Center, was traveling south on R22 in her 2011 Toyota Sienna and did not see the bicycles, which were also traveling south. The bicycles were being operated by Todd Bindel, age 50 of West Des Moines, Brian Terhard, age 49 of Clive and Chad Roethler, age 45 of Urbandale.

After the collision, all three riders “came to rest” in the ditch on the side of the road and, according to the Iowa State Patrol report, all three riders were wearing helmets when the accident occurred.

Bindel was transported to Mercy Hospital by Dallas County EMS, Terhard was transported to Methodist Hospital by Dallas County EMS and Roethler was taken to Mercy West Lakes by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

More details were not immediately available on Thursday morning.
