Local Option Sales Tax passes across the board in Dallas County

Clint Cole - Editor

Local Option Sales Tax went to a vote across the cities in Dallas County and was successful across the board. The measure will add 1 percent to sales tax in each city to pay for city improvements and services.

Adel did not have to participate in the election because they already have Local Option Sales Tax and did not have a sunset on it.

There were nearly 3,000 votes on the issue in the contiguous cities of Waukee, West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale. Those four cities had to pass the issue together for it to take effect in those cities.

There were 1,685 “yes” votes (61.21 percent) and only 1,068 “no” votes (38.79 percent).

The measure also passed in Bouton, Dallas Center, Dawson, De Soto, Dexter, Granger, Linden, Minburn, Perry, Redfield, Unincorporated Dallas County, Van Meter and Woodward.

The Dallas County portion of Grimes will also have Local Option Sales Tax. Only two people voted on the issue in Grimes, and both voted “yes.”
