David Paul Witcraft, age 66 November 4, 1953 — March 22, 2020
David Paul Witcraft, age 66, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at Mercy One-Medical Center in Des Moines.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. Burial was in Linwood Park Cemetery.
Born on Nov. 4, 1953, in Boone, David was the son of Edgar and Sharon (Bowes) Witcraft. David grew up in Boone and was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended Trinity Lutheran School through the eigth grade and transferred to Boone High School, graduating in 1972.
Following graduation, David worked for Sandler Built Homes east of Boone until they closed. Never wanting to be stuck inside again, he began his career as a truck driver. He first drove gravel truck for Hallett Materials. David wanted to see more of the great outdoors, and he went to work for Smithway Trucking in Fort Dodge allowing him to travel from coast to coast. David was recognized for 1,000,000 miles of safe driving with Smithway. He then went to work for Fareway until his retirement on Dec. 15, 2018.
David was passionate about everything he did. He enjoyed fishing, especially his trips up north. He also enjoyed dirt track racing, snowmobiling, and riding his Harley Davidson. He loved seeing the world as it was. David cared deeply for his family and took great care of his parents in their later years.
David is survived by his siblings: Thomas (Rita) Witcraft of Boone, James Witcraft of Boone, and Marsha (James) Rogers of Boone; a special friend, Carol Robinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Sharon Witcraft.
