Golf pairings: Waukee’s state title defense begins in Pleasant Hill

Waukee’s quest for a second consecutive state championship will begin in Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released postseason pairings this week, and the Warrior girls are in Class 5A Region 3, which will take place on May 20 at Gardner Golf Course in Cedar Rapids. The field there includes Burlington, the four Cedar Rapids schools — Jefferson, Kennedy, Prairie and Washington — as well as Dowling Catholic, Iowa City West, Marshalltown, Muscatine and Ottumwa. The top two teams and five individuals will advance to the state tournament at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora May 28-29.

In Class 4A, A-D-M and Dallas Center-Grimes will take travel to Westwood Golf Club in Newton for a regional that includes Ballard, Carlisle, Creston, Grinnell, Norwalk, Perry, Vinton-Shellsburg, Webster City and Winterset. The Class 4A state meet will be held at Ames Golf and Country Club.

Woodward-Granger and Van Meter will begin the first round of regional play on May 13 at the Foxridge Golf Course in Dike. The field includes BCLUW, Colfax-Mingo, Des Moines Christian, Dike-New Hartford, Panorama, Pella Christian and West Central Valley. The top two teams and five individuals advance to the regional final on May 20 at the Marengo Country Club. The state meet will be held at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

On the boys’ side, DC-G will travel to Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone on May 10 for a sectional meet with Boone, Gilbert, Iowa Falls-Alden, Nevada, Perry and Webster City. The top two teams — or three, if the host school advances — as well as the top four individuals will advance to the district meet May 17 at Bos Landen in Pella.

That’s the same district A-D-M will enter, should the Tigers advance out of a sectional with Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Grinnell, Knoxville, Norwalk, Pella and Saydel at Willow Creek Golf Course in Norwalk on May 8. The Class 3A state meet will be May 24-25 at Ames Golf and Country Club.

In Class 2A, Van Meter on May 10 travels to the 5x80 Country Club in Menlo for a sectional with Central Decatur, Clarke, Nodaway Valley, Ogden, Panorama, Red Oak and West Central Valley. The district meet will be May 16 in Panora, with the state meet at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore.

Woodward-Granger’s 1A districtat Pleasantville on May 10 also includes Ankeny Christian Academy, Earlham, Grandview Park Baptist, Lynnville-Sully, Madrid and Martensdale-St. Marys. The district meet will be at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City May 16, and the state meet in Panora.
