Bulldogs 3-for-3 at Nodaway Valley
The Van Meter softball team completed a wild rally with a 9-8 victory over Ogden at home on Tuesday.
Van Meter trailed Ogden 8-3 through three innings, but strung together a rally in the final frame and scored six runs.
The Bulldogs also won all three games at Nodaway Valley’s tournament in Greenfield on June 22.
The Bulldogs beat Tri-Center 10-6, Nodaway Valley 10-3 and A-H-S-T 11-0.
Bailey Richards had two hits and three RBIs to pace Van Meter against Tri-Center, while Kila Carbine drove in three and Hope Connor two. Ana Angel scored three times and stole four bags.
Van Meter scored seven runs in the second against Nodaway Valley. Angel was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Connor doubled twice and drove in three and CArbine had two hits and an RBI. Kendall Anderson pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven.
It was more of the same against A-H-S-T, with the Bulldogs pushing across nine runs in the fourth inning. Eight players drove in runs, including two apiece by Connor and Carbine. Carbine struck out four, allowing just two hits in five innings.
The Bulldogs also were beaten by Earlham 5-0 on June 20, a day after sweeping a doubleheader with Coon Rapids-Bayard. Van Meter was held to five hits against Earlham, and Richards recorded two walks.
The team beat CR-B 16-2 in game one and 12-0 in game two. Richards had four hits, including three doubles, and four RBIs in game one, while Connor was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four stolen bases. Angel had two hits, three RBIs and four runs scored, and both Ali Flaherty and Dion Shirley had multi-hit games.
Richards was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs in game two. Connor and Leasha Porter each drove in three runs, and Carbine doubled and drove in two. Anderson struck out three and surrendered only one hit in the three-inning victory.
