The Lady Panthers traveled to Whitesboro for their second meeting of the year with the Lady Bearcats on Dec. 3. Whitesboro protected its home court with a 50-45 win, holding off a late-game rally by the visitors.

Van Alstyne fell behind 19-9 in the first period and had to spend the remainder of the game playing catchup. Trailing 25-10 in the second, the Lady Panthers went on a 10-0 run to get back in the game.

Baskets by Molly Mayes and Carleigh Simmons started the surge and Hannah Fernandez connected on a pair of free throws. A Maddie Horn three-pointer and her one-of-two from the line made it a five point game.

Whitesboro made a run to close out the half with a 28-20 lead.

Van Alstyne came out scoring to open the second half as Horn dropped in her second three-ball of the contest. Baskets by Emma Moreno and Raigan Servati cut the Whitesboro lead to one.

Whitesboro took a 35-31 lead into the opening minutes of the fourth period and built its lead back to 10 near the halfway mark of the quarter. With just over two minutes left in the game, Van Alstyne trailed 44-34. Moreno dropped in a pair of baskets and Simmons connected on two from the free-throw line, but the Lady Panthers could never square up the game. Hannah Smith closed out the scoring with a three-pointer.
