Waukee ends Hoover’s perfect season

It seemed that the Waukee boys’ basketball team would have its hands full on Tuesday when they took on Des Moines Hoover at Hoover High School. Hoover entered the game with a perfect 16-0 record.

The Warriors put an end to Hoover’s perfection, however, and won 47-37. 37 points is Hoover’s lowest point output in a single game this season with their previous season low being 48 points in the second game of the season.

Michael Jacobson and Anthony Nelson, both seniors, nearly missed double-doubles as Jacobson dropped 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Nelson had 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Jacobson also led the team with three blocks while Nelson had two.

In the previous game, the Warriors lost for just the fifth time of the season against Ankeny Centennial on Friday, Feb. 6. The fell to the Jaguars by a score of 57-37.

Jacobson led the way with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors.

The Warriors are back in action on Friday against Southeast Polk. The Warriors beat the Rams 70-54 in their last meeting back on Jan. 23.

The Warriors and the Rams tip off at Waukee Field House on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
