Howe Loses to Ponder, Whitesboro but Clinches Playoff Spot
The Howe Bulldogs were looking to avenge early season losses to Ponder and Whitesboro, but were swept 84-68 at Ponder on Feb. 6 and 70-41 at home against Whitesboro Tuesday night.
Chase Harris and Brady Anderson had 27 and 25 points for Ponder while Michael Kehrer and Nick Wilson went for 26 and 19 points for Howe (19-10, 7-5). Ryan Schuessler had 20 points, 11 boards and 10 assists for Whitesboro while Griffin Underwood led Howe with 16 points.
The Bulldogs, however, clinched their third straight playoff appearance thanks to a Pilot Point loss which puts Howe three games up with just two games left. Howe drops into a tie for fourth with Pottsboro, both of whom protected its home court during the season series. The Bulldogs play host to Pilot Point Friday and finish up at Gunter on Tuesday. Pottsboro plays against Callisburg and Whitesboro to end its season. If both teams finish with identical district records, it could likely come down to a tiebreaker game to determine who will be third and who will be fourth.
