A-D-M and DC-G finish consolation matches on Saturday

The consolation matches at the State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. DC-G had two wrestlers achieve a fifth-place finish while A-D-M had one take fifth and one take seventh.

DC-G’s Zane Mulder lost his first match of Saturday in the consolation semifinals at 113 pounds to Southeast Polk’s Nate Lendt by major decision, 13-5 before finishing his fifth-place run with a win over Austin Yant of Waverly-Shell Rock 12-10.

Cole Baker of DC-G took fifth place at 220 pounds in Class 3A. He started Saturday off by losing to North Scott’s Cordell Eaton in the consolation semifinals before defeating Harrison Townsend of Ames 1-0 in the fifth-place match.

Baker’s loss to Eaton is his second to him this season.

At 138 pounds, A-D-M’s Trevor Harsh also started with a loss in the consolation semifinals to Jordan Challen of Greene County, who he beat 8-4 in the quarterfinals on Friday. He won in the fifth place match over Cole Fritz of Solon 3-0 to finish his tournament run.

A-D-M’s Cole Bennett only wrestled one match on Saturday and it was a win. He beat Fairfield’s Bryce Lunsford 6-4 for a seventh-place finish at the State Tournament.

The Tigers still have Zach Johnston battling for a State Championship at 160 pounds as he will wrestle in the finals on Saturday. Waukee’s Jakob Allison is also wrestling in the finals and will be battling for a 106-pound State Championship.

The finals start following the Grand March on Saturday at 6 p.m.
