Adel native Friesth wrestles into NCAA National Tourney
For the second year in a row, University of Wyoming wrestler and Adel native Dakota Friesth has qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament, which is set to begin on March 19 in St. Louis.
He qualified after taking second place at 165 pounds for the Cowboys at the NCAA West Regional/Western Wrestling Conference Championship on March 7 in Fargo, N.D.
After losing in the semifinal match to Mitchell Polkowske of Northern Colorado by decision, 9-8, he beat North Dakota State’s Steve Keogh 5-3 in the consolation semifinals and then defeated South Dakota State’s John Nething II in the third-place match. He won the true second place match over Airforce’s Jesse Stafford by forfeit as Stafford was injured during the Championship match against Polkowske.
Last year, Friesth tied for a team-high 29 wins for the Cowboys and posted a 1-2 record at the NCAA Tournament.
Friesth will wrestle at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on March 19-21.
