Guess, Waukee grab All-State honors
Waukee girls’ basketball coach Chris Guess has been named the Class 5A coach of the year after leading the Warriors to their first State Title in school history on Saturday, March 7. Guess just completed his 12th season at Waukee and after a 1-22 record in his first season with the school, guided the Warriors to a 24-2 record this season.
Other Warriors grabbed All-State honors in Class 5A as well.
Reilly Jacobson, a junior, was named to the first team after averaging 16.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this year. Sophomore Carlie Littlefield was named to the second team after scoring 11.9 points per game on average and leading the team in steals with 70 on the year.
Jacobson’s 16.8 points per game on average was good enough for 10th in Class 5A this season. She was 5.8 points behind Chrislyn Carr, a freshman from Davenport West who scored 22.6 points per game on average this season.
Jacobson finished fourth in Class 5A in rebounds per game with 10.2 per game, which was 1.6 behind Amanda Ollinger of Cedar Rapids Jefferson who was the best in the state with 11.8 rebounds per game on average. Jacobson finished first in Class 5A in total rebounding with 265 on the season, 26 ahead of Meredith Burkhall of Des Moines Roosevelt, who took second.
Jacobson made 55 blocks this year, which was third best in Class 5A behind Mackenzie Williams of Dubuque Senior, who had 61 this season, and Madi Jensen of Sioux City West who had 63.
Littlefield’s 70 steals ranks seventh in Class 5A, according to quikstatsiowa.com.
