Bulldogs Bump Past Pottsboro in District 10-3A Tussle

Jack WalkerStaff Writer

The Howe Bulldogs made a couple of late discoveries on their way to a 59-46 win at Pottsboro Tuesday night to bump their District 10-3A record to 2-0.

The Cardinals were leading 40-39 going into the final eight minutes before Howe went on a 19-3 run to get the win.

Griffin Underwood’s defensive work on Pottsboro’s Kyler Kent, the play of Ty Harvey and clutch free throw shooting by Nick Wilson all keyed the late surge.

Kent had 14 points in the game for Pottsboro, dropping treys with a quick release in the early stages of the game. He got nothing in the fourth period.

Harvey, who had stuck back a pair of offensive rebounds in the third period, was filling in for Levi Mrozinski, who missed the game and is listed as day-to-day on his return. Harvey added four more points in the fourth period, backing down a bigger defender for an easy deuce that bumped Howe’s lead to six. He finished with eight points on the night.

After another Harvey put-back everything else came from Wilson ,and from the free-throw line, as Pottsboro tried to close the widening gap.

Michael Kehrer splashed a couple of 3-balls in the second quarter on his way to 10 points in the period. He finished with 14 points in the contest. Wilson also had 14 while Underwood added 12 and Sam Akins was in double-digits with 11 points.

The score was tied four times in the first quarter and once, at 43-43, in the fourth, before a 13-3 run by the Bulldogs closed the deal on this one.

Howe (11-6,2-0) will host Callisburg Friday night.
