Adel native honored by Iowa Girls Basketball Hall of Fame

Patty Ashby, who played basketball, track and softball for Adel from 1967-1970, was elected to the Iowa Girls Basketball Hall of Fame.

On the basketball court, Patty led teams that won conference all four years she played. In her senior year, she took Adel to the state tournament with a 21-2 record. She was elected fourth team all-state in her junior year.

As a starter, her overall record was 77-13. Ashby was awarded first team all-conference four straight years, and her 3,696 points put her at 31st on the all-time scoring list.

Ashby played college basketball at Central College and later the University of Minnesota, where she graduated in 1976. She currently lives in Seattle and is director of the Child Care Center at Children’s Hospital.
