Pilot Point went on a run to open the fourth period and outscored Howe 14-7 in the final frame.

The Whitesboro Lady Bearcats were on a three game District 10-3A win streak as they came into Howe on Jan. 15, and for three quarters they battled the Lady Bulldogs point for point.

Howe outscored the visitors 18-7 in the final frame to halt that win streak.

The Lady Bulldogs, after a less than spectacular showing at the free-throw line in the first 18 minutes of the contest, finished with a respectable 23-of-36 when unguarded. They made 14-of-17 in the fourth period to ice a win that was a lot closer than the final score indicates.

Whitesboro was leading 39-36 near the end of the third period when Landry Rhoten was fouled on a 3-point attempt. The junior knocked down her three free shots to deadlock the game heading to the final frame.

The visitors took the lead on a Karlee Schuessler shot, and Riley Harvey dropped in a pair of free throws to tie the score for the ninth time.

After an Alissa Smith basket, Harvey was fouled as she drove the baseline as her scoop shot rolled in. The old-school three-point play gave Howe a 46-42 lead.

The Lady Bearcats got the lead down to three before the free throw parade started for Howe.

Peyton Streetman, who ended with a season’s high 17 points, was 8-for-10 in the closing minutes of the game.

The Whitesboro 2-3 zone was making Harvey work hard for her shots, but the senior finished with 21 points, 15 coming in the second half.

Sub-Varsity Notes: The Howe Lady Bulldog JV won the opener with a 48-30 decision over the Lady Bearcat JV. Madison Kehrer finished with 25 points and Calley Vick added 14 to lead Howe to the win.
