Waukee beats out Ankeny

The Waukee boys basketball team played Ankeny on Jan. 3. The Warriors beat the Hawks 65-40 to boost their record to 6-2 for the season.

The Warriors leading scorer for the night was Senior Jacob Rau. He scored 18 points on the night made up of six field goals and six free throws.

Rau also led the Warriors in rebounds. He had five offensive rebounds and seven defensive rebounds for a total of 12.

Sophomore Dylan Jones was the Warriors second leading scorer. He had 14 points on the night after scoring six field goals and both of his free throws.

Not only was he the second leader in points, he also followed Rau in rebounds. Jones had 11 rebounds made up of three offensive and eight defensive rebounds.

Lastly, Jones led the Warriors in blocks. Jones had three out of four of the Warriors total blocks.

Cade Longnecker had eight-of-19 assists for the Warriors allowing him to lead the team. Another five of the assists went to Drew Johnson, making him the the second leader.

The Warriors only had three steals the entire game. Longnecker, Jones and Johnson each had one steal for the total of three.

The Warriors beat the Hawks by 25 points (65-40) and their next game will be on Friday, Jan. 6 at Valley at 7:45 p.m.
