Late surge results in victory for DC-G wrestling
Thanks to a late surge, the Dallas Center-Grimes wrestling team walked away with a conference victory Thursday night against the likes of Oskaloosa.
In front of the hometown crowd, the Mustangs overcame a 24-15 deficit to capture the win 42-27. The Mustangs totaled nine victories on the night compared to five from the Indians. DC-G received six straight wins from weight classes 106 through 138 and of the nine total wins on the night, five of them were earned by pin-fall. That included the likes of Zach Needham who bested Braden Dawson in just 47 seconds worth of action. Trevon Wells at 126 pounds picked up his fifth win of the new year by besting Maximus Larkins by fall at the 3:09 mark. Other victors by way of pin-fall were Brock Renshaw at 106 pounds (3:02), Brayden Broderick at 132 pounds (2:27) and Bain Broderick who picked up his fastest pin fall win in just nine seconds worth of action.
Kieran Shawhan picked up a victory by way of 9-0 major decision while Riley Kovaleski bested Salvador Gonzalez by 2-1 decision. Both Gavin Moran at 138 pounds and Drew Clausen at 182 pounds both took decision wins (5-3 and 6-3).
The next round of action for the Mustang graplers will be the ADM Tiger Invitational on Saturday, January 12.
